Ingredients

  • 1 small ball of Tamarind
  • 1 tsp Gudh
  • Water
  • 250 gm Bitter gourd
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • A pinch of Hing
  • Curry leaves
  • 1 finely chopped Onion
  • 1 tsp Goda masala
  • 1 1/2 tsp Red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1~2 tsp Water
  • 3~4 tsp roasted Peanut powder
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves

Karlyachi chatpatit bhaji

Instructions

Step 1: Soak tamarind and gudh in enough water for about 30-45 minutes.

Step 2: Wash karle really good and cut off stem part.

Step 3: Cut it into 2 parts and remove the seeds with the help of peeler or spoon.

Step 4: Cut the karle into thin slices.

Step 5: Heat up oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.

Step 6: When mustard seeds pop up add cumin seeds, hing, curry leaves and mix well.

Step 7: Add onion and fry it well on medium heat for about 4-5 minutes.

Step 8: When onion gets light golden color add goda masala, red chili powder and fry well for about a minute.

Step 9: Add the karle slices, salt and mix well.

Step 10: Add water and mix well.

Step 11: Cover and steam bhaji for about 10 minutes.

Step 12: Open the lid and stir the bhaji well at regular intervals.

Step 13: Squeeze out the pulp form soaked tamarind and gudh and add that. Mix well.

Step 14: Add roasted peanut powder, coriander leaves and mix well.

Step 15: Cook the bhaji for another 2-3 minutes and karlyachi bhaji is ready.

Chamchamit karlyachi bhaji

 

Notes

  • If you want you can keep the seeds as it is.
  • You can use grated fresh coconut in place of roasted peanut powder.
  • This can be a good lunch box option.
  • You can have it with chapati or it goes well with rice too.
