Khara bhat is a very healthy recipe as it contains lot many veggies. It tastes different that our regular rice as we have added a twist to it. This is made on the border of Maharashtra like Belgaum or Karnataka. It tastes just awesome. It can be a good breakfast or evening snack recipe. If you are on diet it can be a complete meal for you. Ingredients

  • 1 cup coarse Rava / Suji
  • 1/2 tsp Ghee
  • 2 1/2 cups Water
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • Few Cashew nuts
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Curry leaves
  • Chopped Green chilies
  • 1 tsp Chana dal
  • 1/2 tsp Urad dal
  • 1/4 tsp Hing
  • Grated Ginger
  • Finely chopped Onion
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped Green beans
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped Carrot
  • Frozen peas
  • Finely chopped Tomato
  • 2 tsp Sambar masala
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • A pinch of Sugar
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves

Instructions

  • Take rava in a pan and add ghee.
  • Roast rava on medium heat for just 5-6 minutes.
  • No need to change the color. Just roast a little.
  • When rava begins to release aroma transfer it into a dish.
  • Heat up water in a sauce pan.
  • Heat up oil in a pan. Add cashew nuts and fry until these change the color a little.
  • Transfer the roasted cashew nuts into a bowl.
  • In the same pan add mustard seeds and let them pop up.
  • Add cumin seeds and let it splutter.
  • Add curry leaves, green chilies, chana dal, urad dal, hing and fry everything for just 30 seconds.
  • Add ginger and mix well.
  • Add onion and fry until it turns a little soft.
  • Add green beans, carrot and mix well.
  • Cover and steam for about 4-5 minutes.
  • Remove the lid and mix well once.
  • Add frozen peas, tomato and fry for just 2 more minutes.
  • You can add veggies of your choice.
  • If you are using fresh peas then add them with carrot.
  • Add roasted rava, sambar masala, turmeric powder, salt and mix well.
  • Add hot water and mix well.
  • Cover and steam it until all the water is absorbed for about 3-4 minutes.
  • Remove the lid and mix well once.
  • Add sugar, coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Cover and steam again for at least 6-7 minutes.
  • Khara bhat is all ready.
