This is a very easy and simple recipe. It is a Konkan special breakfast or snack recipe. It doesn’t need lot many fancy ingredients. You can make sundal from the ingredients those are easily available in your kitchen. Sundal is made from chick peas, curry leaves, spices and fresh coconut too. But today we are going to make rice flour sundal. You can call it rice flour dumplings too!!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1 cup Rice flour
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • A pinch of Hing
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • Curry leaves
  • 2 chopped Green chilies
  • 2 Dry red chilies (Optional)
  • 1 finely chopped Onion
  • Few Cashew nuts (Optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar to taste
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves
  • Grated fresh Coconut

Konkani sundal

Instructions

Step 1: Heat up water in a pan and add salt, oil.

Step 2: Mix well and add rice flour. Mix in quickly.

Step 3: Cover and steam the mixture for few seconds.

Step 4: Turn off the gas and take the ukad out into a dish.

Step 5: Knead the ukad well until it turns smooth and even.

Step 6: Make small balls from it and steam them on medium heat for about 10-15 minutes.

Step 7: For tadka heat up oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.

Step 8: When mustard seeds pop up add cumin seeds, hing, urad dal and fry until urad dal turns light pink.

Step 9: Add curry leaves, green chilies, dry red chilies and mix well.

Step 10: Add onion, cashew nuts and fry until onion gets light golden color.

Step 11: Add salt, sugar and mix well.

Step 12: Add the steamed rice balls and mix well.

Step 13: Cover and steam sundal for about 5 minutes.

Step 14: Add coriander leaves, fresh coconut and mix well. Sundal is all ready.

Notes

  • Adding dry red chilies is optional. You can skip it if you don’t want.
  • Adding cashew nuts is optional. You can skip it if you don’t want.
