Aartya is a traditional Shravan special recipe. This is another sweet puri recipe that is made from banana. These turn out nice and crispy and remain so for long time. Shravan is a very auspicious month. Many people follow different rules and different Gods are worshiped on different says of this month. On every friday of this month, Jivati pujan is performed and this is the naivadya on that day.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Gudh / Jaggery
  • 2 ripe Bananas
  • 1 tsp Ghee
  • Wheat flour
  • A pinch of Salt
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

Step 1: Grate bananas into gudh and add ghee.

Step 2: Mix everything well together with hand.

Step 3: Cover and rest the mixture until gudh melts for about 10 minutes.

Step 4: Avoid use of water. No lumps of gudh should be left behind. 

Step 5: Add wheat flour, salt and mix well. Knead semi soft dough from it.

Step 6: Add just enough wheat flour so as you can knead semi soft dough.

Step 7: Cover and rest the dough for about 10 minutes.

Step 8: Make small balls from it and make them smooth and even.

Step 9: Roll out puris from the dough.

Step 10: Heat up oil in a pan and drop puris into it.

Step 11: Fry aaratya well from both sides.

Step 13: When aaratya are fried well from both sides, take them out, drain excess oil and transfer them in a dish. Aaratya are ready.

Step 14: You can store them in an airtight container when they cool down completely.

Notes

  • You can mash the bananas instead of grating.
  • If gudh doesn’t melt, then blend the mixture once in blender.
  • There is no need to use dry flour or oil while rolling the puris.
  • If you don’t want to fry it them make dashami and roast it.
