Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp Urad dal
  • 1 tbsp Tur dal
  • 1 tbsp Masoor dal
  • 1 tbsp Moong dal
  • 1 tbsp Chana dal
  • Water
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 sliced Onion
  • 3~4 Garlic cloves
  • 1” Ginger
  • 3 tbsp grated dry Coconut
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 2 tsp Sunday masala
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • Water

Khandeshi faujdari dal

Instructions

Step 1: Wash urad dal, turdal, moong dal, masoor dal, chana dal together 3-4 times well with water and transfer it into a cooker.

Step 2: Add water and cook on low heat for 15 minutes. Make sure not to make any whistles of the cooker. When the steam begins to release reduce the heat to low and steam for 15 minutes.

Step 3: Open the cooker and mix the dal well once.

Step 4: Heat up oil in a pan and add onion, garlic, ginger.

Step 5: Fry well until onion gets nice golden color and move it aside in the pan.

Step 6:  Add dry coconut in the pan and fry until it gets nice golden color.

Step 7: Mix onion and coconut well and turn off the gas.

Step 8: When the mixture cools down a little transfer blend in into paste in mixer. Vatan or masala is ready.

Step 9: Heat up oil in a pan and add the blended masala.

Step 10: Fry the masala well for about 4-5 minutes and add Sunday masala, red chilli powder and fry for about a minute.

Step 11: Add the blended dal, water to adjust the consistency, salt and mix well.

Step 12: Simmer dal on medium heat for about 7-8 minutes. Faujdari dal is all ready.

Notes

  • The dal should retain its texture. Do not beat it.
  • You can have it with jwarichi bhakari or kalnachi bhakari.
  • It goes well with rice too.
