Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Tur dal
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 finely chopped Tomatoes
  • 10~12 roughly blended Garlic cloves
  • Curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp Kasuri methi
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • A pinch of Hing
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Besan (Optional)
  • 1/2 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1 tsp Kitchen king masala
  • 2 tsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 4~5 crushed Garlic cloves
  • 3 Dry red chilies

Instructions

  • Take dal in a cooker pot and wash it really good 2-3 times.
  • Add water, hing, turmeric powder and mix well.
  • Take 1” water in cooker and put a dish at the base.
  • Put the cooker pot in the cooker.
  • Close the lid and cook on medium heat until 3-4 whistles.
  • Open the cooker and take cooked dal out.
  • Beat it really good.
  • Heat up oil in a pan.
  • Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle up.
  • Add curry leaves, tomato and mix well.
  • Cover and cook on medium heat for about 4-5 minutes until these turn nice and soft.
  • Open the lid and mix well again.
  • Add besan and mix well.
  • Adding besan is optional. You can skip it if you don’t want.
  • Besan gives nice binding to dal.
  • Add garlic, kitchen king masala, red chili powder, coriander powder, salt to taste and mix well.
  • You can use garam masala instead of kitchen king masala.
  • Fry for about 1-2 minutes.
  • Add beaten dal and water.
  • Mix well and cook dal on medium heat for about 7-8 minutes.
  • Crush kasuri methi with hands and add it.
  • Kasuri methi gives nice flavour to this dal.
  • Heat up ghee in a pan.
  • Add mustard seeds and let them pop up.
  • Add cumin seeds, garlic, dry red chilies.
  • When garlic gets nice color add the tadka on the dal and tomato dal tadka is already.
  • It goes fantastic with rice.
  • You can have it with roti or chapatti or paratha.
