Dal vange is an easy and simple recipe. This is traditional Maharashtrian recipe. At some places it is said to be a type of dal and at some places it is treated as sabzi. Ingredients

  • 1 cup Tur dal
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • A pinch of Hing
  • 4 Bringles
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Methi seeds
  • 8-10 Curry leaves
  • 2 tsp Goda masala
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • 2 tsp Tamarind sauce
  • 1 tsp fresh shredded Coconut
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Take tur dal into a cooker and wash it well.
  • Add water, turmeric powder and hing.
  • Cut the stalk off the bringle and chop them into big chunks.
  • Add bringles and close the lid.
  • Cook on medium heat until 4-5 whistles.
  • Open the lid and add water in the cooked dal to adjust the consistency.
  • Beat the dal really good.
  • You can either beat the bringle with dal or keep the whole pieces.
  • Heat up oil in a pan.
  • When oil is enough hot, turn off the gas.
  • Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, methi seeds, curry leaves, goda masala, red chili powder and mix well.
  • Add cooked dal and turn on the gas.
  • Add tamarind sauce and mix well.
  • Add fresh coconut, salt and mix well.
  • Simmer on medium heat for about 7-8  minutes.
  • Dal vange is already. You can have this as it is as soup.
  • It goes well with rice too.
