Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1/4 cup Chana dal
  • 1/4 cup Masoor dal
  • 1/4 cup Moong dal
  • 1/4 cup Urad dal
  • 1/2 cup Poha
  • 1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • Chopped Green chili
  • Cumin seeds
  • Grated Ginger
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil

Mix lentil appe

 

Instructions

Step 1: Mix rice, chana dal, masoor dal, moong dal, urad dal, poha and fenugreek seeds well together and wash it well 3-4 times with water.

Step 2: Soak the mixture in enough water for about 5-6 hours.

Step 3: Drain all the water from the mixture and blend it into coarse paste in mixer. Use minimum water while blending.

Step 4: Transfer the batter into a pan and add water.

Step 5: Mix everything well together and ferment it well for about 12-14 hours or overnight.

Step 6: Add green chili, cumin seeds, ginger, salt and mix well.

Step 7: Heat up oil in an appe patra and add batter in each mold.

Step 8: Cover and roast appe well from lower side for about 2-3 minutes on medium heat.

Step 9: Flip the appe over and roast well from other side too. Add a little oil on upper side before flipping appe over.

Step 10: When both sides are roasted well from both sides take them out on a wire rack. Appe are ready.

Notes

  • If you grind the dry mixture of pulses and rice into coarse flour then your appe premix will be ready.
  • If you want to the batter to ferment quickly then mix the batter with hand instead of spoon. This helps to speed up the process of fermentation.
  • If you want then you can add veggies of your choice like capsicum, carrot green peas etc if you want.
  • You can have these as it is or with chutney or sambar.
