Ingredients

  • 3 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2~3 Bay leaves
  • 3~4 Cloves
  • 3~4 Black peppercorns
  • Finely chopped Onion
  • 2 tsp Sunday masala
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1 cup Chana dal
  • Water
  • Salt to taste
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves

Instructions

Step 1: Heat up oil in a pan and add cumin seeds.

Step 2: When cumin seeds splutter add bay leaves, coves, black peppercorns, onion and fry on medium heat until it gets light golden color.

Step 3: When onion begins to get light golden color add Sunday masala, red chili powder and mix well.

Step 4: Wash chana dal really good and soak overnight.

Step 5: Add the soaked chana dal into the masala and mix well.

Step 6: Add water and mix well.

Step 7: Bring it to boil on high heat.

Step 8: When the mixture begins to boil, turn the heat to medium and add salt. Mix well.

Step 9: Cover and cook dal on medium heat until 25-30 minutes.

Step 10: Remove the lid and check if the dal is cooked.

Step 11: Add coriander leaves and soji dal kanda is all ready.

Notes

  • In this recipe use more oil and onion that you use regularly.
  • You can use Saoji special kala masala or kala masala or any masala you use regularly at home in place of Sunday masala.
  • You can soak chana dal for about 4-5 hours too instead of soaking overnight.
  • You can make the tadka in cooker and cook dal on medium heat until 1 whistle.
  • You can have it with paratha, roti, naan or bhakari too.
  • It goes well with rice too.
