Malvan special Vatpachi Godi Dal

Vatpachi dal is a Malvan special recipe. Winter is on. In such climate to have hot soup or dal or saar is next level satisfaction. It looks simple but tastes just awesome. This is my personal favourite dal. It gets nice texture, consistency. This is easy yet healthy recipe. It can be made from the ingredients those are easily available in your pantry. It doesn’t need too many ingredients. It is also known as godi dal. We already have seen lot many dal recipes like Maharashtrian amti, fodniche varan, dalitoy, masoor amti, katachi amti, Solapuri amti etc. Here is another delicious and healthy addition to the list. This vatpachi godi dal is very easy and simple. It tastes just awesome. Malvan is popular for its own cuisine. This is comfort food that you can have as it is as soup too. This dal is also known as vatpachi or vatnachi dal. It doesn’t need too many fancy ingredients. It cna be made from the ingredients those are easily available in your pantry. It is a comfort food. Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Tur dal
  • 1 1/2 cup Water
  • 1 medium size finely chopped Tomato
  • 1/4 cup grated fresh Coconut
  • 5~6 Garlic cloves
  • 2~3 Green chilies
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • A pinch of Hing
  • Curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Water to adjust the consistency
  • Salt to taste

Malvani vatpachi dal

Instructions

Step 1: Wash tur dal really good 2-3 times with water and add water, tomato.

Step 2: Cook dal in cooker on medium heat until 3 whistles.

Step 3: For making vatan or vatap take fresh coconut, garlic, green chilies, cumin seeds in a blender jar and blend everything into paste.

Step 4: Add a little water if needed. Vatan or vatap for making dal is ready.

Step 5: Beat the cooked dal really good.

Step 6: Heat up oil on medium heat in a pan and add mustard seeds.

Step 7: When mustard seeds pop up add cumin seeds, hing, curry leaves and blended masala.

Step 8: Fry everything together for about 3-4 minutes.

Step 9: Add turmeric powder and mix well.

Step 10: Add cooked dal, water, salt and mix well.

Step 11: Simmer dal on medium heat for about 7-8 minutes and Malvani dal is all ready.

Step 12: You can have it as it is as soup.

Step 13: It goes well with tandalachi bhakari or rice too.

Notes

  • You can heat up cooker on medum to high heat and when pressure is built up cook dal on low heat for about 15 minutes.
  • You can add veggies in dal while cooking.
  • You can add the vatan in dal if you want. Also you can add turmeric powder in dal if you want.
  • You can add onion in vatan or in dal while cooking if you want.

You can have this dal as it is as soup or it goes well with tandalachi bhakari or rice too. This is a very easy, simple yet testy and healthy recipe.
