Upwas Puri

Upwas masala puri is a fasting recipe. Shravan month has started and so have fasting days. Some fasting recipe is must. We already have seen lot many fasting recipes. But today we will make crispy upwas masala puri. This is a very easy and simple recipe. These remain crispy longer time. It doesn’t need lot many ingredients to make and can be made from the ingredients those are easily available. This can be a perfect evening snack with hot masala chai. You can try this recipe at home.

Upwas masala puri have a good shelf life of about a week. So these can be a good travelling snack too. These taste nice and turn out nice and crispy.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Varai / Samo seeds
  • 4~5 Green chillies
  • Chopped Ginger (Optional)
  • Coriander leaves (Optional)
  • 3 boiled and mashed Potatoes
  • 1/4 cup Rajgira flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Upwasachi puri & masala chai

Instructions

Step 1: Blend varai into fine powder in mixer and add green chillies, ginger.

Step 2: Blend again in mixer and add coriander leaves.

Step 3: Blend again and keep aside.

Step 4: Grate the boiled potatoes into a dish and add the blended mixture.

Step 5: Add rajgira flour, salt and knead the dough.

Step 6: Do not add any water while kneading the dough. You can add the blended mixture as per the requirement.

Step 7: Take a small portion from it and make it smooth and even.

Step 8: Spread a little oil on rolling board and place the dough ball.

Step 9: Roll in into puri with the help of rolling pin very carefully.

Step 10: You can pat it with hand into puri. Do it very carefully.

Step 11: Heat up oil on medium heat in a pan and drop puri into hot oil.

Step 12: Press it a little and when lower side is fried well, flip the puri over.

Step 13: When other side is also fried well take the puri out, drain excess oil and transfer it into a dish.

Step 14: Upwas puri is all ready.

Step 15: You can store these puris in an air tight container for about a week.

 

Notes

  • Adding ginger is optional. You can skip it if you don’t want.
  • Adding coriander leaves is optional. You can skip it if you don’t want.

  • You can use dry rajgira flour for rolling the puri.
  • These can be a good traveling snack too.

Servings

You can serve this crispy masala puri with a cup of hot masala chai. You can have it on any other day than fasting too. It tastes nice as it is or serve with chutney.
