Nashik special Misal

Nashik missal is very tasty and has its own speciality. It is made using kala masala. Kala masala is the speciality of Nashik missal. We already have seen 3-4 misal recipes like Puneri missal, zatpat missal, bachelors’ missal etc. But this missal tastes different and a little spicy too. You can try this missal at home. It tastes just awesome and is spicy too.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 2 sliced Onions
  • 5~6 garlic cloves
  • 2” chopped Ginger
  • 2~3 tap grated dry Coconut
  • Coriander leaves (Optional)
  • 1~2 tsp Water
  • Oil
  • Sunday masala
  • Red chili powder
  • Mataki / sprouted Moth beans
  • Hot Water
  • Salt to taste
  • Shev
  • Finely chopped Onion
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves
  • Ladi pav
  • Lemon slice

Instructions

Step 1: Heat up oil in a pan and add onion, garlic, ginger.

Step 2: Roast until onion turns nice brown for about 7-8 minutes.

Step 3: Move the onion along the edge of the pan and add dry coconut in the pan.


Step 4: Roast coconut until it nice golden and mix it with onion.

Step 5: Turn off the gas and let the mixture cool down.

Step 6: Transfer the mixture into a blender jar and add coriander leaves.

Step 7: Blend everything together using minimum water into smooth paste.

Step 8: Heat up oil in a pan and add blended masala.

Step 9: Mix well and fry for about 4-5 minutes.

Step 10: When the masala begins to release oil, add Sunday masala, red chili powder and mix well.

Step 11: Fry everything well together for about 2 minutes.

Step 12: Add mataki and mix well.

Step 13: Fry mataki well and add hot water, salt.

Step 14: Simmer it for about 10-15 minutes until mataki is cooked well.

   Step 15: For serving missal add mataki first in a serving dish, add shev, tarri, onion, coriander leaves.

 Step 16: Serve missal with ladi pan, tarri, slice of lemon.

Notes

  • Adding coriander leaves while blending masala is optional. You can skip it if you don’t want.
  • Try to avoid use of water while blending masala. If required add just 1-2 tsp water.

Servings

You can serve this misal with ladi pav, onion and slice of lemon. You can roast the pav a little with butter. Do not forget to garnish with shev and coriander.
