You don’t need to soak the dal and rice, blend it and then fermenting the batter. You can make it whenever you please. Enjoy thatte idly with sambar and chutney.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Poha / Flattened rice
  • 1 cup coarse Rava / Suji
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup Curd
  • 1 cup + 1~2 tsp Water
  • 1 tsp Eno fruit salt
  • 1~2 tsp Water
  • Ghee
  • Podi powder

Instant Thatte idly

Instructions

Step 1: Take poha in a blender jar and blend it into coarse powder.

Step 2: Add rava, salt and mix well.

Step 3: Add curd and mix well.

Step 4: Add water and rest the batter for about 15-20 minutes.

Step 5: Add water to adjust the consistency and mix well.

Step 6: Add Eno fruit salt, water and mix in quickly.

Step 7: Line up a little deep dish with banana leaf and add batter in it.

Step 8: Spread the batter a little and steam the idly in steamer or cooker on medium heat for 15 minutes. 

Step 9: Turn off the gas and let the idly be in the steamer for another 5 minutes.

Step 10: Take the idlies out and let them cool down a little.

Step 11: Loosen the edges with the help of spoon or knife and take idly out.

Step 12: Theatte udli is all ready.

Step 13: Spread ghee in the idly and sprinkle podi powder on it while serving.

Step 14: Serve the thatte idly with chutney and sambar.

 

Notes

  • You can wash pohe if you want.
  • We do not want roasted rava. Use rava as it is.
  • Try to use lime flavour or plane Eno. Avoid using any other flavour.
  • You can skip banana leaf. You can grease the dish with ghee or oil instead of banana leaf.

Servings

Serve thatte idly with ghee and podi powder on it. While serving do not forget to serve chutney and sambar. It tastes just awesome and is very easy to make.
