Rava Masala Idly

Rava masala idly is a very easy and simple recipe. This can be a quick fix for breakfast. It doesn’t require too many ingredients. It can be made from the ingredients those are easily available in your kitchen. As we are adding veggies in it, it is healthy too. It tastes just awesome. Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tap Cumin seeds
  • Finely chopped Green chilies
  • 1 tsp Ginger paste
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • 1 tsp Chana dal
  • 1/4 tsp Hing / Asafoetida
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Shredded Carrot
  • Finely chopped Beans
  • 1 cup Rava
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/2 tsp Eno fruit salt
  • 2~3 tsp Water
  • Oil
  • Few Cashew nuts

Instructions

Step 1: Heat up oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.

Step 2: When mustard seeds pop up add cumin seeds and let it splutter.

Step 3: Add green chilies, ginger paste and fry for few seconds.


Step 4: Add urad dal, chana dal and fry everything together for few seconds.

Step 5: Add hing, turmeric powder and mix well.

Step 6: Add carrot, beans and mix well.

Step 7: Add rava and fry everything together for about 2-3 minutes.

Step 8: Turn off the gas and add salt.

Step 9: Mix well and let the mixture cool down a little.

Step 10: When the mixture cools down add buttermilk and mix well.

Step 11: Add water and mix well. Cover and rest the batter for about 15-20 minutes.

Step 12: Add Eno fruit salt, water to activate it and mix in quickly. 

Step 13: Grease the idly mold well with oil and add the batter into it. You can add a piece of cashew nut before adding the batter if you want.

Step 14: Heat up water in the steamer and transfer the idly stand into it.

Step 15: Close the lid and steam on medium heat for about 15 minutes.

Step 16: Turn off the gas and let the idly be into the steamer for another 5 minutes.

Step 17: Open the lid and take the idly stand out.

Step 18: Let the idlies cool down a little and take them out of the mold. Rava masala idly is all ready.

Step 19: You can serve the idly as it is as it contains all the spices or with chutney and sambar too.

 

Notes

  • For making premix use everything except veggies. You can store the premix for later use.
  • Add fresh veggies while making the idly.
  • You can use 1/4 cup or 1/2 cup curd and water in place of buttermilk.
  • You also can use 2~3 tsp lemon juice and water in place of buttermilk.

You can serve these rava masala idly with sambar and chutney. These loos nice and taste just yumm.
