Let’s see how to make bhogichi bhaji and bajrichi bhakri today. In Maharashtra, a day before Makar Sankrant is celebrated as bhogi. The special menu for this day is, mix bhaji, bhakri and mugdalichi khichadi. We also are making bajrichi bhakri with it. The combination tastes just awesome. This is no onion, garlic recipe. Also I will share recipe of masala for that bhaji. It looks nice and tempting and is easy to make. The combination is just perfect for winter days. Ingredients

Bhogichi Bhaji

  • 1 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 1 tbsp Cumin seeds
  • 4~5 Cloves
  • 4~5 black Peppercorns
  • 1 small Cinnamon stick
  • 1 green Cardamom
  • 1/2 cup / 60 gm Peanuts
  • 1/4 cup / 50 gm grated dry Coconut
  • 1 tbsp white Sesame seeds
  • 1~2 tbsp Oil
  • Grated Ginger
  • 1 chopped Tomato
  • 1 1/2 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Goda masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Hot Water as needed
  • Jaggery to taste (Optional)
  • 1/4 cup Pavta and Harbhara
  • 1/4 cup Wal papdi
  • 7~8 Bor
  • Chopped Carrot
  • 1 peeled and chopped Potato
  • 2~3 small Brinjals

Bajrichi Bhakri

  • 1 cup Bajra flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • White Sesame seeds

Instructions

Bhogichi Bhaji

Step 1: Dry roast coriander seeds, cumin seeds, cloves, black peppercorns, cinnamon and cardamom well together on medium heat until they begin to release nice aroma and transfer the mixture into a dish.

Step 2: In the same pan dry roast peanuts really good.

Step 3: When the peanuts are almost roasted, add dry coconut and sesame seeds and roast it well together.

Step 4: Turn the gas off and let the mixture cool down.

Step 5: Transfer the roasted whole spiced into a blender jar and blend it into fine powder.

Step 6: Add roasted peanuts, coconut and sesame seeds and blend it into fine powder. Masala for bhaji is ready.

Step 7: Heat up oil in a cooker and add ginger and tomato.

Step 8: Fry it for about 3-4 minutes and add the blended masala.

Step 9: Mix well and add red chili powder, goda masala and salt and fry well together until oil is released from it.

Step 10: Add hot water and mix well.

Step 11: Add jaggery and mix well.

Step 12: Add pavta, harbhara, wal papdi, bor, carrot and brinjal and mix everything well together.

Step 13: Add hot water and mix well.

Step 14: Close the lid and cook the bhaji on medium heat until 2 whistles.

Step 15: Open the lid and mix well once. Bhogochi bhaji is ready.

Bajrichi Bhakri

Step 16: Mix bajra flour and salt well together and add a little water at a time to knead semi soft dough.

Step 17: Knead the dough well with the base of the palm for at least a minute.

Step 18: Take small portion and make it smooth and even.

Step 19: Pat it into a small disc with palms.

Step 20: Sprinkle dry bajra flour on rolling board and place the disc on it.

Step 21: Pat it into thin bhakri and make the edges smooth and even.

Step 22: Sprinkle sesame seeds and pat it again.

Step 23: Heat up a skillet on high heat and transfer the bhakri on it.

Step 24: Spread water on upper side and immediately flip the bhakri over.

Step 25: Roast the lower side really good and flip the bhakri over.

Step 26: When the other side is also roasted well, take the bhakri off on a wire rack. Bajrichi bhakri is ready

Notes

  • You can use any other masala that you use regularly at home in place of goda masala.
  • Adding jaggery is optional. You can skip it if you don’t want.
  • Make sure to flip the bhakri over immediately after spreading water on upper side.
  • Do not flip the bhakri until lower side is roasted well.
