Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup / 100 gm Aliv seeds / Garden cress seeds
  • 1/2 cup / 50 ml Coconut water
  • 1 1/2 cup / 150 gm grated fresh Coconut
  • 1 cup / 100 gm Jaggery
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 2~3 Cloves
  • 1~2 Cinnamon sticks
  • 1/3 cup / 75 gm chopped Dry nuts (Optional)
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 1/4 tsp dry Ginger powder
  • A pinch of Nutmeg powder
  • Pistachios slices
  • Cashew nuts

Instructions

Step 1: Dry roast aliv on medium heat for just about 2-3 minutes until they begin to pop up like popcorns.

Step 2: Transfer the roasted aliv into a bowl and spread it well.

Step 3: When aliv cools down completely, add coconut water and mix well.

Step 4: Rest it for about 5 minutes so that the seeds will soak the coconut water.

Step 5: Add fresh coconut and jaggery and mix everything well together.

Step 6: Heat up ghee in a pan and add cloves, cinnamon and dry nuts.

Step 7: Mix well and fry together until dry nuts begin to get light golden color.

Step 8: Add the coconut mixture and mix everything well together.

Step 9: Cook it well together for at least 10 minutes until jaggery melts and the mixture is cooked well.

Step 10: When the mixture comes together like dough, turn the gas off and add cardamom powder, dry ginger powder and nutmeg powder.

Step 11: Mix well and let the mixture cool down.

Step 12: Take out the cloves and cinnamon and roll ladoos from the mixture. Garnish the ladoos with pistachios slices, cashew nut etc. Aliv ladoo are ready.

Notes

  • Adding dry nuts is optional. You can skip it if you don't want.
  • You can make 16 ladoos from the ingredients used.
  • These have shelf life of about 4-5 days at room temperature and 2-3 weeks in freeze.
