Ingredients

  • 2 cups Maida
  • 1/2 cup fine Rava
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp hot Oil
  • Warm water as needed
  • 2 cup desiccated Coconut
  • 3/4 cup Milkmaid
  • 2~3 tbsp Dry nuts
  • Oil for frying
  • Milkmaid
  • Few drops Rose essence
  • Milkmaid
  • 1/2 tbsp Cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp Chocolate syrup
  • Sliced Pistachios
  • Dry Rose petals
  • Choco chips

Instructions

Step 1: Mix maida, rava and salt well together in a dish and add hot oil.

Step 2: Mix everything well together with the help of spoon.

Step 3: Add a little warm water at a time and knead semisoft dough.

Step 4: Cover and rest the dough for about 15-20 minutes.

Step 5: For making stuffing of modak take desiccated coconut in a pan and add milkmaid and dry nuts.

Step 6: Turn on the gas and cook the mixture together for about 7-8 minutes.

Step 7: When the mixture comes together like dough, turn off the gas and stuffing is ready.

Step 8: Knead the dough well once and take small portion from it.

Step 9: Make it smooth and even and roll out as thin pari as possible from it with the help of rolling pin.

Step 10: Cut off a round puri from it with the help of a lid and remove excess dough.

Step 12: Wet the edges of the pari with water and fill in stuffing.

Step 13: Make plates or kalya to the pari and bring them together.

Step 14: Close the edges and seal the modak well.

Step 15: Use a little water if needed to seal the modak.

Step 16: Heat up oil on medium heat in a pan and drop modak into the hot oil.

Step 17: Fry modal well from all sides on low heat.

Step 18: Fry the modak well until they get nice golden color from all sides.

Step 19: Take the modak out, drain excess oil and transfer them into a dish. Fried modak are ready. 

Notes

  • Fried modak are ready. Store them in an airtight container when they cool down completely.
  • They have shelf life of about 3-4 weeks.
