Ingredients

  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • 1/2” Ginger
  • 2 tbsp roasted Chana dal
  • 2 medium size chopped Tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2 finely chopped Onions
  • 1 tsp Sunday masala
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Gudh / Jaggery
  • 500 gm Matar / fresh Peas
  • Water as needed

How to make matar masala

Instructions

Step 1: Blend garlic, ginger, roasted chana dal together into coarse powder first.

Step 2: Add tomato and blend everything into puree.

Step 3: Heat up oil in a cooker and add cumin seeds.

Step 4: When cumin seeds splutter, add onion and fry well until onion gets nice golden color.

Step 5: When onion is almost roasted, add the blended puree and fry it together for about 10-12 minutes.

Step 6: Add Sunday masala, red chili powder, salt and fry everything well together for about 2-3 minutes.

Step 7: Add matar and mix well.

Step 8: Add water and mix well.

Step 9: Close the lid and cook on medium heat until 1 whistle. Matar masala is ready.

Notes

  • You can use kala masala or garam masala or the stored masala that you use regularly in place of Sunday masala.
  • It goes well with fulka or chapati. You can serve it with rice too.
