Another thing is we have added beet root and carrot in this saar. As both these veggies contain natural sugar, you don’t have to use much additional sugar. Ingredients

  • 4~5 chopped Tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup grated fresh Coconut
  • 1/2 Beet root
  • 1/2” chopped Ginger
  • 1 chopped Carrot
  • 2 Garlic cloves (Optional)
  • 2~3 Green chilies
  • Salt to taste
  • 2~3 tbsp Water
  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Hing
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Water as needed
  • Sugar to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves

Tomato saar recipe

Instructions

Step 1: Add tomato, coconut, ginger, carrot, garlic, green chilies, salt and water in a cooker and cook it on medium heat until 1 whistle.

Step 2: Remove the skin of cooked tomatoes and transfer everything into a blender jar.

Step 3: Add a little water and blend it into a smooth puree.

Step 4: Heat up ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds.

Step 5: When cumin seeds splutter, add hing, turmeric powder and strain the puree into it.

Step 6: Add sugar and salt and mix well.

Step 7: Bring it to boil and turn off the gas.

Step 8: Add coriander leaves and tomato saar is ready.

Notes

  • Adding garlic is optional. You can skip it if you don’t want.
  • You can steam it a kadhai.
  • You can skip the straining if you want.
  • You can have it as soup or it goes well with rice too.
