If you follow the instructions while making idly then your idlies will be perfectly soft, fluffy and simply mouth watering!! The ration rice is comparatively cheaper than regular rice. Ingredients

  • 1 cup Urad dal
  • 1 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • 2 cups ration Rice
  • 1 cup Poha
  • Salt to taste

Easy idly

Instructions

Step 1: Wash urad dal well 2-3 times with water and add fenugreek seeds.

Step 2: Soak it together in enough water for 4-5 hours.

Step 3: Wash ration rice, poha together 2-3 times well with water and soak it in enough water for 4-5 hours.

Step 4: Blend soaked dal with some water in blender into fine paste and transfer it into a pot.

Step 5: Blend soaked rice and poha with water in blender into coarse paste and transfer the paste into the pot. Mix well.

Step 6: Cover and let it ferment for about 12-15 hours or overnight.

Step 7: Add salt and mix well carefully.

Step 8: Grease the idly molds with oil and transfer the batter into each mold.

Step 9: Heat up water at the base of the steamer and transfer the idly molds into it.

Step 10: Close the lid and steam the lidy on medium heat for about 10-15 minutes.

Step 11: After steaming idly in medium heat for 12 minutes check it with knife. If it comes out clean then the idly is cooked well.

Step 12: Take the idlies out and let them cool down for about 5 minutes.

Step 13: Take the idlies out with the help of knife or spoon.

Notes

  • You can use butter or ghee for greasing the idly mold in place of oil.
  • If you overcook the idly then it will lose its soft texture and will be dense. So avoid overcooking idly.
  • You can serve it with chutney and sambar.
