Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp Chat masala
  • 1/4 tsp Black salt
  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala
  • 2 tsp Red chili powder
  • 2 cups thick Poha / Flattened Rice
  • 1 cup Churmure / Puffed Rice (Optional)
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • Peanuts
  • Cashew nuts
  • Roasted Chana dal
  • Curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp powdered Sugar (Optional)

Chivda recipe

Instructions

Step 1: For making masala blend fennel seeds into powder in blender.

Step 2: Add coriander powder, cumin powder, chat masala, black salt, garam masala, red chili powder and blend together in mixer. Chivda masala is ready.

Step 3: Sieve thick poha well.

Step 4: Heat up a pan on medium heat and add pohe.

Step 5: Roast the poha well on medium heat until they turn crunchy for about 5 minutes.

Step 6: When poha begins to shrink, add churmure and mix well.

Step 7: Transfer the roasted mixture into a dish and heat up oil in the same pan.

Step 8: Add peanuts and roast well until they get golden color.

Step 9: When peanuts begin to turn golden, add cashew nuts and roast well together until cashew nuts turn golden.

Step 10: When cashew nuts begin to turn golden, add roasted chana dal and fry well.

Step 12: Add curry leaves and mix well.

Step 13: Turn the gas on low heat and add roasted mixture.

Step 14: Mix everything well together and add chivda masala.

Step 15: Mix everything well together.

Step 16: Turn off the gas and add salt and powdered sugar. Mix everything well together and chivda is ready.

Notes

  • Adding churmure is optional. You can skip it if you don’t want.
  • You can use garlic if you want.
  • Adding powdered sugar is optional. You can skip it if you don’t.
  • Store this chivda into an airtight container when it cools down completely. It has shelf life of about a month.
