Ingredients

  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • Yellow food color
  • 1/2 tsp Fruit salt

Gathi recipe

Instructions

Step 1: Heat up a pan on medium heat and add sugar, water.

Step 2: Mix well and cook until the syrup gets 2 thread consistency.

Step 3: Cook on high heat for about 7-8 minutes and check the consistency.

Step 4: When froth begins to collect on the syrup, take out some syrup in a dish. Let it cool down and check the consistency.

Step 5: It should be thick and should have 2 thread consistency.

Step 6: Another indication that the syrup is ready is that sugar crystals begin to form along the edge of the pan.

Step 7: Add fruit salt and mix in quickly.

Step 8: Take out some syrup out in a dish. If a nice ball is formed it means the syrup is cooked perfect.

Step 9: When lot of sugar is collected along the edge of the pan then the syrup is ready.

Step 10: The processes after this point must be quick.

Step 11: Take a dish and spread a thread in shape of garland.

Step 12: Pour out the sugar syrup on the thread to make gathi garland.

Step 13: Let it cool down a little and loosen the gathi from the dish. Gathi is all ready.

 

Notes

  • Adding food color is optional. You can skip it if you don't want.
  • You can make 2 medium size garlands from the mixture we used.
