Ingredients

  • 1 cup coarse Rava / Semolina
  • 1 tsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • Cashew nuts
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • A pinch of Hing
  • 1/2 tsp Chana dal
  • 1/2 tsp Urad dal
  • Curry leaves
  • Finely chopped Green chilis
  • Finley chopped Onion
  • 1 tsp grated Ginger
  • 2 finely chopped Tomatoes
  • 3 cups Water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Ghee (optional)
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves

Andhra style tomato bhat

Instructions

Step 1: Take rava in a pan and add ghee.

Step 2: Roast rava on medium heat for about 5-6 minutes and transfer it into a dish. No need to change the color of rava.

Step 3: Heat up oil in a pan.

Step 4: Add cashew nuts and fry until it gets light golden color and take them out into a dish.

Step 5: In the same oil add mustard seeds and let them pop up.

Step 6: Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Step 7: Add hing, chana dal, urad dal and fry well.

Step 8: Add curry leaves, green chilies, onion and fry until onion softens a little.

Step 9: Add ginger and mix well.

Step 10: Add tomatoes and fry everything well together for about 5-6 minutes until tomato is turns soft.

Step 11: Add water, salt, turmeric powder and mix well.

Step 12: Bring everything to boil.

Step 13: When water boils, turn the gas on very low setting and add rava and mix well quickly.

Step 14: Add ghee and mix well.

Step 15: Cover and cook the bhat on very low heat for about 5-6 minutes.

Step 16: Add coriander leaves and mix well. Tomato bhat is all ready.

Notes

  • Adding ghee is optional. You can skip it if you don’t want.
  • You can have it as it is.
  • It goes well with podi powder or podi masala.
  • If you are using fine rava then 2 cups water is enough.
