Shrikhand is a traditional sweet from Maharashtra. It is prepared from ‘hung curd.’ In Marathi we call it as ‘chakka.’ Keshar pista shrikhand is flavoured with keshar (saffron) and pistachios. It is enjoyed during festivals with hot puffed puris. This sweet literally transforms simple curd or yogurt into totally delicious dessert. So do give it a try this Dasara. Here is Shrikhand.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Chakka
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 tsp Milk
  • 10~12 Saffron strands
  • Assorted dry fruits (Pistachio, Almonds and Cashew Nuts)
  • Cardamom powder

Instructions

  • If you use store bought chakka, it contains traces of water.
  • To remove water, tie this chakka in a cotton cloth and keep some heavy object on it.
  • After half an hour the excess water will be drained.
  • Chakka is ready to use. You can either prepare chakka at home or use greek yogurt too.
  • If you are using store bought chakka use equivalent sugar. That is for 1 cup chakka use 1 cup sugar.
  • But if you are using homemade chakka use a bit less sugar. That is for 1 cup chakka use 3/4 cup sugar.
  • In a bowl take chakka. Add powdered sugar. Mix well. If you want you can add a bit of milk to make it thin.
  • Blend it with blender for about 4-5 minutes.
  • Take warm milk to it add saffron strands. Add this milk to shrikhand.
  • Add assorted dry fruits. Mix well.
  • Add Cardamom powder and mix well.
  • Refrigerate for 4-5 hours before serving. Serve with puris.
