Simple and Easy Suji Halwa

Suji halwa is popularly known as sheera in Marathi. Gudhipadwa is round the corner. It is the beginning of Marathi New Year. So a traditional recipe is must. We already have seen 2-3 recipes of sheera. This is yet another delicious and guest special addition to the list. Today Kanak from Kanak’s recipe is with us to show this recipe. Her method is a little different. The sheera turns nice, soft and simply superb. It turns out nice and juicy. You can try this recipe at home.

Sheera is regularly made in Maharashtrian house hold. This is a very easy and simple recipe. While making sheera we generally add hot water in roasted rava first and then sugar. But Kanak’s method is a little different. Here the suji is roasted twice. This helps to make the halwa nice, juicy and granular. Are you eager to know more about this method? Let’s start then..

This is an easy, simple yet delicious recipe. The method is a little different that we use regularly. Here rava is roasted twice and sugar syrup is added in place adding adding hot water and sugar separately. These help to make halwa nice, soft, granular and juicy.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coarse Sooji / Rava
  • 2 1/2 cup Water
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • Few Saffron strands
  • Cardamom powder
  • 3~4 tsp Ghee
  • Chopped Cashew nuts
  • Chopped Almonds
  • Few raisins
  • 1 tbsp Ghee

Quick suji halwa

Instructions

Step 1: Roast rava on medium heat really good for about 3-4 minutes. Keep it aside.

Step 2: Heat up water in a sauce pan and add sugar, saffron, cardamom powder.

Step 3: Mix well and bring it to boil.

Step 4: When sugar melts completely and mixture boils, turn off the gas. Sugar syrup is ready.

Step 5: Heat up ghee in a pan and let it melt.

Step 6: Add cashew nuts, almonds and roast until it turns golden.

Step 7: Add raisins and fry a little.

Step 8: Add roasted sooji and roast well until it turns nice golden brown for about 6-7 minutes.

Step 9: Add sugar syrup and mix well. 

Step 10: Roast well for about 3-4 minutes.

Step 11: Cover and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Remove the lid and mix well again.

Step 12: Add ghee and mix well again. Sooji halwa is all ready.

 

Notes

  • You can add 1 tbsp besan for nice flavour while roasting rava in ghee.
