Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1/2 cup split Moong beans
  • 4 times Water
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 4~5 Cloves
  • 4~5 Black peppercorns
  • 1~2 Green chili (Cut vertically)
  • 1 Cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Finely chopped Tomato
  • Lot of finely chopped Spinach
  • 1/2 tsp Oil
  •  3 tsp Ghee
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Hing
  • Garlic cloves
  • Curry leaves
  • Dry red chilies

Instructions

  • In a cooker take rice. Add split moong beans and mix well.
  • Wash it well with water really good 3-4 times.
  • Add water, bay leaves, cloves, black peppercorns, green chili, cinnamon, garam masala, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt and mix well. Add tomato, spinach and mix well.
  • Add oil and close the lid.
  • Cook on medium heat until 2 whistles.
  • Open the lid and check.
  • If you want khichadi more runny then add hot water and beat it really good.
  • Heat up ghee in a pan.
  • Add mustard seeds and let it pop up.
  • Add cumin seeds, hing, garlic cloves and fry it well.
  • When garlic cloves get light golden color add curry leaves, dry red chilies and fry for few seconds.
  • Add the tadka on khichadi and mix well.
  • Dal khichadi tadka is all ready.
  • You can have it as it is or you can serve it with some pockle, papad.
