Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Moong dal
  • 1 chopped Tomato
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves
  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • 2~3 slit Green chilies
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Garlic paste
  • 8~10 Curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp Hing
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds

Instructions

  • Wash the moong dal really good with water 2-3 times.
  • Transfer the moong dal into pressure cooker.
  • Add water, tomato, turmeric powder and mix well.
  • Close the lid and cook on medium heat until 3-4 whistles.
  • Remove the lid and mash the dal really good.
  • Transfer the dal into a pan.
  • Add water to adjust the consistency.
  • Moong dal thickens up as time passes. Add water accordingly.
  • Turn on the gas and add salt to taste.
  • Mix well and bring it to boil.
  • Heat up ghee in a tadka pan for tadka.
  • Add mustard seeds and let them pop up.
  • Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
  • Add hing, garlic paste and fry garlic for just about a minute.
  • When garlic turns nice golden add curry leaves and green chili. Mix well.
  • Add tadka on the boiling dal and turn off the gas.
  • Add coriander leaves for garnishing and moong dal tadka is already.
  • You can have this as it is as soup.
  • You can serve it with chapatti, naan, fulka.
  • It goes well with plain rice too.
