Crispy and Crunchy Masala Dal Vada

Dal vada is a very crispy and crunchy recipe. This is a real quick recipe and tastes just awesome. If you are bored of having the same pakoda or vada then this is a nice option for you. If you want to try something new then this will help you out to make your loved ones happy. It doesn’t need too many ingredients and you will get few tips to make this dal vada perfect nice, crispy.  We already have seen different vada recipes like vada pav, kat vada, pav vada, sangam vada, sanudana vada, medu vada etc. You can try this vada at home.

Masala dal vada is made from chana dal. It is a popular south Indian evening or tea time snack. These have a nice nutty taste and these crunchy fritters are popular street food. We already have seen different vada recipes like vada pav, kat vada, pav vada, sangam vada, sanudana vada, medu vada etc. There are different methods of making dal vada. But today I am sharing my version of making it. I do hope you enjoy it!!

There are different ways of making dal vada. But I am sharing my version of making it. These are savory and tasty fritters which are made from chana dal. These are best option for monsoon season. If you are bored of having the same pakoras or vada then do try this.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup Chana dal
  • 6~7 Garlic cloves
  • 3~4 Green chilies
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Hing
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Red chili powder
  • Coriander powder
  • Curry leaves
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves
  • Finely chopped Onion
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Masala dal vada

Instructions

Step 1: Wash chaha dal really good 3-4 times and soak in enough water for 4 hours.

Step 2: Strain all the water from soaked dal.

Step 3: Transfer the soaked dal into a blender jar and add garlic, green chilies. 

Step 4: Blend it into coarse paste without adding any water.

Step 5: Transfer the paste into a bowl and add cumin seeds, hing, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, curry leaves, coriander leaves, onion, salt.

Step 6: Mix everything well together and roll small vade from it.

Step 7: Heat up oil on medium heat in a pan.

Step 8: Drop vade in hot oil and fry well from both sides.

Step 9: After frying for about 3-4 minutes from one side flip the vada over and fry well from other side too.

Step 10: When the vada is fried well from both sides take it out, drain excess oil and transfer it into a dish.

Step 11: Masala dal vada is all ready.

Step 12: You can have the vada as it is or you can serve it with chutney or sauce.

Notes

  • You can decide the size and shape of the vada.

These dal vada turn out nice and crunchy. You can have these as it is or with chutney. These are perfect evening or tea time snack specially in monsoon season.
