Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1/4 cup Chana dal
  • 1/4 cup Moong dal
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Hing
  • Green chili-Garlic paste (4~5 Green chilies & 10~12 Garlic cloves)
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 cup chopped French beans
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 cups Water

Instructions

Step 1: Take rice, chana dal, moong dal in a bowl and wash it really good 3-4 times well with water.

Step 2: Drain all the water from the washed mixture.

Step 3: Transfer the mixture into a blender jar and blend it into fine powder.

Step 4: Heat up oil in a pan.

Step 5: Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Step 6: Add hing, green chili-garlic paste and fry for about a minute.

Step 7: Add turmeric powder and mix well.

Step 8: Add French beans and mix well.

Step 9: Add the blended powder, salt and mix well.

Step 10: When the mixture is fried well, add water and mix well.

Step 11: Stir well and cook it until it dries well.

Step 12: When the mixture comes together like dough turn off the gas and let it cool down a little.

Step 13: Take small portion from the mixture and roll it into undi.

Step 14: Grease a dish well with oil and transfer the undi on it.

Step 15: Heat up water at the base of the steamer and transfer the undi into it.

Step 16: Close the lid and steam undi on medium heat for about 15 minutes.

Step 17: Turn off the gas and let the undi be in the steamer for another 10 minutes.

Step 18: Open the lid and take undi out. Transfer the undi into a dish.

Step 19: While serving, add a little ghee and a little red chili powder into each undi and serve with green chutney and tamarind chutney.

Step 20: This can be a good lunch box or breakfast option.

Notes

  • You can keep the mixture ready previous night and steam undi next morning.
  • You can use oil in place of ghee.

You can serve undi as it is or with green chutney and tamarind chutney. It tastes just awesome and is very easy to make. This healthy breakfast recipe has no oil and perfect breakfast recipe.
