Shraddhachya Bhajya

After Anant Chaturdashi, there come pitrupaksha. Literally it means fort night of our ancestors. We express our gratitude to our ancestors by offering special food to them. Lot many recipes are prepared for this like vade, Shraddhachya Bhajya . Today we will see the Shraddhachya Bhajya those are prepared for shraddha.

All these recipes do not have onion, garlic in it. I will show you easy and quick method. We are making 4 types of sabzi with no use of onion and garlic. These all are quick and easy to make. You can make all the preparation for these sabzi’s a day in advance and make all of them on Shraddha day to save time.

Some Interesting facts about Shraddhachya Bhajya :-

All these bhajya have to be made. Now a days people look out for some shortcuts like making 2 sabzis together. But I have shown easy and quick traditional recipes for all these sabzis. There are a lot of variations in the peparation or even the sabzis. But I have tried to accomodate basic minimum sabzis.

Ingredients

Methichi Bhaji

  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Chopped Green chilies
  • Fenugreek leaves
  • Salt to taste

Lal Bhopalyachi Bhaji

  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tap Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • Chopped Pumpkin
  • Salt to taste
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves

Karlyachi Bhaji

  • 2~3 sliced Bitter Gourd
  • Turmeric powder
  • Salt
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • A pinch of Hing
  • Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
  • Red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Tamarind-Jaggery pulp (Optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves

Bhendichi Bhaji

  • 1~2 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Hing
  • Curry leaves
  • Chopped Green chilies
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Chopped Lady’s fingers
  • Salt to taste

Batatyachi Bhaji

  • 1~2 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Hing
  • Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Ginger-Green chili paste
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Boiled, peeled and chopped Potato
  • Salt to taste
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves

Gawarichi Bhaji

  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Cluster beans / Gawar
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • Red chili powder

Kadhi

    • 1/2 cup Curd
    • 1 cup Water
    • 1 tsp Besan
    • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
    • 1 tsp Ghee
    • 1/2 stp Mustard seeds
    • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
    • A pinch of HIng
    • Curry leaves
    • Chopped Green chili
    • 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds
    • Water
    • Salt to taste
    • 1/2 tsp Sugar
    • Finely chopped Coriander leaves

Instructions

Methichi Bhaji

Step 1: Heat up oil in a pan and add cumin seeds.

Step 2: When cumin seeds splutter add green chilies, fenugreek leaves and mix well.

Step 3: Fry everything well together for about 2 minutes.

Step 4: Add salt and mix well.

Step 5: Cook for another 3-4 minutes.

Step 6: Methichi bhaji is all ready.

Lal Bhopalyachi Bhaji

Step 1:Heat up oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.

Step 2: When mustard seeds pop up add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Step 3: Add curry leaves, fenugreek seeds and mix well.

Step 4: Add red chili powder, pumpkin and mix well.

Step 5: Add salt and mix well.

Step 6: Cover and cook on low heat for about 7-8 minutes.

Step 7: Remove the lid and stir at the regular intervals.

Step 8: Add coriander leaves and mix well.

Step 9: Lal bhopalyachi bhaji is all ready.

Karlyachi Bhaji

Step 1: Remove the seeds of bitter gourd and slice it.

Step 2: Sprinkle turmeric powder and salt on the slices and mix well.

Step 3: Steam the slices on medium heat for about 8-10 minutes.

Step 4: Turn off the gas and let it be in the steamer for another 10 minutes.

Step 5: Heat up oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.

Step 6: When mustard seeds pop up add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Step 7: Add hing and turn the gas on low heat.

Step 8: Add curry leaves, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder and mix well.

Step 9: Add steamed karle slices and mix well.

Step 10: Add tamarind-jaggery pulp, salt and mix well.

Step 11: Fry everything well together for about 3-4 minutes.

Step 12: Add coriander leaves and mix well.

Step 13: Karlyachi bhaji is all ready. 

Bhendichi Bhaji

Step 1: Heat up oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.

Step 2: When mustard seeds pop up add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Step 3: Add hing, curry leaves, green chili and mix well.

Step 4: Add turmeric powder and mix well. Add bhendi and mix well.

Step 5: After frying for about 2-3 minutes, cover and steam bhedi for about 2-3 minutes.

Step 6: Remove the lid and fry well for about 7-8 minutes.

Step 7: Add salt and mix well.

Step 9: Add coriander leaves and mix well.

Step 10: Bhendichi bhaji is all ready.

Batatyachi Bhaji

Step 1: Heat up oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.

Step 2: When mustard seeds pop up add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Step 3: Add hing, curry leaves, ginger-green chili paste and fry well.

Step 4: Add turmeric powder and mix well.

Step 5: Add potatoes, salt and mix well.

Step 6: Cover and cook for about 4-5 minutes.

Step 7: Remove the lid and mix well once.

Step 8: Add coriander leaves and mix well.

Step 9: Batatyachi bhaji is all ready.

Gawarichi Bhaji

Step 1: Heat up oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds.

Step 2: Add curry leaves, turmeric powder, gawar and mix well.

Step 3: Add salt and mix well.

Step 4: Cover and cook until gawar is cooked nice and soft.

Step 5: Open the lid and mix well after every 3-4 minutes.

Step 6: If you feel then you can add hot water.

Step 7: After cooking for about 7-8 minutes when gawar is almost cooked add cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder and mix well.

Step 8: Cover and cook for another 8-10 minutes.

Step 9: Gawar bhaji is all ready.

Kadhi

Step 1: In a bowl take curd and add water.

Step 2: Beat it really good and add besan.

Step 3: Mix well. No lumps of besan should be formed.

Step 4: Add turmeric powder and mix well.

Step 5: Heat up ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds.

Step 6: When mustard seeds pop up add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

Step 7: Add hing, curry leaves, green chili, fenugreek seeds and mix well.

Step 8: Add the curd mixture, water, salt, sugar and mix well.

Step 9: Bring it to boil and simmer for about 7-8 minutes.

Step 10: Add coriander leaves and mix well.

Step 11: Kadhi is all ready.

Notes

  • You can add roasted peanut powder and shredded fresh coconut in every recipe except for kadhi. 
  • If you want to add roasted peanut powder and / or shredded fresh coconut add it in the end when sabzi is almost ready.
  • You can add moong dal in methi sabzi if you want.
  • You can skip tamarind-jaggery pulp or add only jaggery in Karlyachi bhaji
  • You can skip turmeric powder if you don’t want in kadhi.

These are very easy and simple recipes those taste just awesome. These recipes do not have onion or garlic. If you have done some preparation previous night then these can be made quickly and easily.
