Ingredients

  • 1 cup Basamari rice
  • 1 cup Coarse Besan
  • Coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • Ginger -Green chili paste (1/2” Ginger & 2~3 green chilies blended coarse)
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • A pinch of Hing
  • 2~3 Dry red chilies
  • 1 tsp Curd / Yogurt
  • 2 cups and a little more Water
  • Oil

Instructions

  • Take the rice into a bowl and wash it really good 2-3 times.
  • Soak the rice in enough water for about 30 minutes.
  • Heat up pan on medium heat.
  • Add besan and roast it well.
  • Dry roast the besan. No need to add any oil while roasting.
  • Turn off the gas and take the besan out into a bowl.
  • When besan cools down completely add turmeric powder, ginger-green chili paste, red chili powder, salt to taste and curd.
  • Add very little oil and mix everything well together.
  • Add coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Add very little water just enough to get binding to besan.
  • Mix well and when the besan begins to get a little binding take some mixture in hand and make ball or gola from it.
  • Roll them lightly to give them the shape of your fingers.
  • You can make round gole if you want.
  • Do not make tight gola as these may remain raw while cooking in rice.
  • Make gole as light as possible.
  • Heat up oil in a pan.
  • Add mustard seeds and let them pop up.
  • Lower down the heat and add hing, dry red chilies and turmeric powder.
  • Mix well and add soaked rice.
  • Mix well and add water.
  • Let the water boil really good.
  • Mix once and lower the gas to medium heat.
  • Add the gole or balls in the rice.
  • Cover and cook on medium heat for 5 minutes.
  • Lower down the heat to low and cook the rice for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Turn off the gas and gola bhat is ready.
