Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Chana dal
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp Black salt
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin powder
  • 2~3 pinches Salt
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  • Wash chana dal really good and soak it in enough water overnight or at least 6-7 hours.
  • Drain all the water from the dal.
  • Transfer the soaked dal on the on a napkin and let it dry for about 10-15 minutes.
  • In a bowl take red chili powder, black salt, cumin powder, salt and mix well.
  • Masala is already.
  • Heat up oil in a pan on medium heat.
  • Take a strainer and add some dal in it.
  • Drop the strainer into oil and fry the dal until it puffs up.
  • Fry until the bubbles arising from dal reduce noticeably.
  • Take a few grains out of oil and let them cool down a little.
  • When it cools down, press it in your fingers.
  • If the dal breaks easily then it is fried well.
  • If you undercook the dal then it won’t be crunchy.
  • Take the dal out on a tissue paper.
  • Sprinkle the masala over the dal and mix well.
  • Sprinkle the masala when dal is hot do that it gets nice coating of masala.
