We regularly make Ganapatti bappa’s favorite ukadiche modak every year. Making Ukadiche modak rather giving them that shape is not an easy job. So for those who are not so good at making perfect modak here is the recipe for you, modak roll.  So far we have seen lot many modak recipes like 2-3 typs of ukadiche modak, chocolate modak, panchkhadya modak etc. These modak roll look nice and taste just awesome. Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Ghee
  • 1 1/2 cup Rice flour
  • 1 tsp Ghee
  • Chopped Cashew nuts
  • Chopped Almonds
  • 1 cup grated fresh Coconut
  • 1/2 cup Gudh / Jaggery
  • Cardamom powder
  • Sliced Pistachios

Instructions

Step 1: Heat up water in a pan and add salt, ghee. When water comes to boil add rice flour and mix in quickly.

Step 2: Turn off the gas and cover the pan.

Step 3: Heat up a pan on medium heat and add sugar.

Step 4: Rest the ukad for about 10 minutes.

Step 5: For making stuffing, heat up a pan on medium heat and add ghee.

Step 6: When ghee is a little hot add almonds, cashew nuts and roast them a little.

Step 7: Add fresh coconut and fry a little for about 3-4 minutes.

Step 8: Add gudh and mix well.

Step 9: Fry well until gudh melts and add cardamom powder.

Step 10: Mix well and stuffing is ready. Let it cool down completely.

Step 11: Transfer the ukad into a dish and knead it really good.

Step 12: Take small portion from ukad and make it smooth and even.

Step 13:Sprinkle some rice flour in rolling board and put the dough ball on it.

Step 14: Roll it carefully into thin chapatti and spread stuffing on it.

Step 15:Lift chapatti from one end and make a roll like the one we make for aluchi vadi.

Step 16: Grease a dish with oil and place roll on it.

Step 17: Steam the roll on medium heat for about 10 minutes.

Step 18: Take the roll out and cut them into pieces.

Step 19: Modak roll are all ready. Garnish with some pistachios slices. 

Notes

  • You can add nutmeg power, poppy seeds in the stuffing if you want.
  • You can place the rolls on a banana leaf for steaming.
