Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Ghee
  • 1~2 Cinnamon sticks
  • 2 green Cardamom
  • 2 Cloves
  • Few Cashew nuts
  • Sliced Almonds
  • 1/2 cup akkha Basmati rice
  • 1 1/2 cup Coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup Dark Jaggery / Chikkicha gudh
  • 1/4 cup shredded fresh Coconut
  • Saffron milk
  • Cardamom powder
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg powder
  • A pinch of Salt

Instructions

  • Heat up ghee in a pan.
  • Add cinnamon sticks, green cardamom, cloves, and fry it a little.
  • Add cashew nuts, sliced almonds, and mix well.
  • Wash rice well and add. No need to soak the rice.
  • You can use ambemohor, Indrayani rice, or any rice that has a nice aroma.
  • Fry the rice for about a minute.
  • Add coconut milk and mix well.
  • I have used store-bought thick coconut milk. So I added 1 cup of thick coconut milk and 1/2 cup water.
  • You can use homemade coconut milk too.
  • Bring the mixture to boil.
  • When the mixture begins to boil lower the heat to low, cover, and cook until all the milk is absorbed in the rice for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Keep the heat low only and not high.
  • Remove the lid and mix the rice once carefully.
  • Add jaggery, fresh coconut, saffron milk, cardamom powder, nutmeg powder, salt and mix well.
  • When gudh melts well cover again and steam on very low heat for about 10 minutes.
  • Turn off the gas and narali  bhat is all-ready.
