Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1/2 cup Tur dal
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1/2 cup sliced Onion
  • 1 cup chopped Tomato
  • 1 tbsp Chana dal
  • 1/2 tbsp Urad dal
  • 1 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2~3 Cinnamon sticks
  • 3~4 Black peppercorns
  • 3~4 Cloves
  • 4~5 dry red Chilies (Bedgi mirchi)
  • 8~10 Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp shredded dry Coconut
  • 1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • Water
  • 4 tsp Tamarind-jaggery paste
  • 1/2 cup chopped French beans
  • 1 cup chopped Carrot
  • 1 cup Green peas
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup chopped Capsicum
  • 3 tsp Ghee
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Hing
  • 3~4 dry red Chilies
  • 5~6 Curry leaves
  • Cashew nuts

Instructions

  • Take rice into a cooker.
  • Add dal and wash it really good 2-3 times.
  • You can use 1/4 cup tur dal & 1/4 cup moong dal too.
  • Add water, sliced onion, tomato and close the lid.
  • Cook on medium heat until 3 whistles.
  • Heat up a pan on medium heat.
  • Add chana dal, urad dal, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, black peppercorns, cloves, dried red chilies, curry leaves, shredded dry coconut and mix well.
  • Roast on low to medium heat for about 3-4 minutes.
  • Turn off the gas and add fenugreek seeds.
  • Mix well and let it cool down a little.
  • Transfer everything into a blender jar and blend it into powder.
  • Bisi bele bhat masala is already. 
  • In a bowl take water and add tamarind pulp.
  • Add masala and mix well.
  • Open the cooker and mix the cooked rice once.
  • Add French beans, carrot, green peas and mix well.
  • You can add potao and navalcol if you want.
  • Add the masala mixture and mix well.
  • Close the lid and cook on medium heat until just 1 whistle.
  • Open the lid and mix well.
  • Add salt, capsicum and mix well.
  • Cook on medium heat for another 3-4 minutes.
  • Heat up ghee in a tadka pan.
  • Add mustard seeds and let them pop up.
  • Add hing, dry red chilies, curry leaves, cashew nuts and fry for about a minute.
  • Transfer the tadka on the rice and mix well.
  • Bisi bele bhat is already.
  • You can have this as it is.
