Ravan bhat is a very easy and simple recipe. It requires a little planning i.e. soaking chana dal for about 2-3 hours at least. It tastes just awesome. Ingredients

  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Dry red chilies
  • Curry leaves
  • 1/2 cup soaked Chana dal
  • Red chili powder
  • 1/2 cup Chana dal
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Tamarind juice (Optional)
  • 2~3 cups cooked Rice

Instructions

  • Heat up oil in a pan.
  • Add mustard seeds and let them pop up.
  • Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  • Add dry red chilies, curry leaves, red chili powder and mix well.
  • Wash and soak chana dal in enough water for about 2-3 hours.
  • Add soaked chana dal, salt to taste and mix well.
  • Cover and cook on medium heat until chala dal cooks nice and soft for about 10 minutes.
  • Add tamarind juice, coriander leaves and mix well.
  • Tamarind juice is optional. You can skip it if you want.
  • Take rice and add cooked chana dal in it.
  • Mix everything carefully. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Ravan bhat is already.
  • You can have ravan bhat as it is or serve it with finely chopped onion or roasted peanuts or cashew nuts.
