Upwas Nuggets and Chutney

With Navaratri round the corner fasting recipe is must. Many of you must be fasting during Navaratiri. Having the same sabudana khichadi or varaicha bhat or sabudana vada can be boring. We already have seen lot many fasting recipes like upwas thali, upwas bhajani, thalipeeth upwas idly, upwas dhokla, upwas missal, upwas amboli. Today we are making upwas nuggets. These need very few ingredients and these turn out nice and crispy. These remain crispy for 1-2 hours and the chutney to be served with is very simple. This combination tastes just awesome and is very easy to make.

These upwas nuggets taste delicious with chutney or you can have them as it is. You can make appe also from the dough we made. These nuggets turns out nice, crispy and crunchy. Chutney has perfect consistency and tastes fantastic,

This is a very easy and simple recipe. It can be a good change to your regular upwas recipes like sabudana khichadi or vada, varaicha bhat, batata bhaji, ratalyache kaap etc. This recipe doesn’t need lot many ingredients.

Ingredients

For Nuggets

  • 1 cup Varai / Vrat ke chaval
  • 1/4 cup Sabudana
  • 2~3 boiled, peeled Potatoes
  • 1 tsp Ginger-Green chili paste
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Chili flakes
  • Roasted Peanut powder
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

For Chutney

  • 10~12 dry Red chilies
  • Ginger paste
  • 1~2 tsp roasted Peanut powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2~3 tsp Curd

Instructions

For Nuggets

Step 1: Take varai, sabudana in a blender jar and blend together into fine powder.

Step 2: Mash boiled potatoes well with masher and add ginger-green chili paste, cumin seeds, chili flakes, blneded powder, roasted peanut powder, coriander leaves.

Step 3: Knead the dough. You can add the blended powder as needed.

Step 4: Cover and rest the dough for about 30 minutes.

Step 6: Take a small portion and make a roll.

Step 7: Cut the roll into pieces and roll them into nuggets.

Step 8: Heat up oil in a pan on medium heat.

Step 9: Drop nuggets in hot oil and fry on medium heat until it get nice golden color from all sides.

Step 10: When nuggets are fried well take them out, drain excess oil and transfer into a dish.

Step 11: Nuggets are ready.

Step 12: You can have nuggest as it is or serve with upwas chutney.

For Upwas Chutney

Step 1: Soak dry red chilies in hot water.

Step 14: Transfer the soaked chilies into a blender jar and add ginger paste, roasted peanut powder, salt, curd.

Step 15: Blend everything together into paste.

Step 16: Transfer the paste into a bowl and upwas chutney is ready.

Notes

  • You can skip the things like coriander leaves, cumin seeds, ginger etc. if you don’t want.
  • You can grate the potatoes if you want.
  • You can decide the thickness of the roll depending upon the thickness of the nuggets you want.
  • You can make small vade form the dough if you don’t want to make nuggets.
  • You can shallow fry the vade or make appe in appepatra.
  • You can use green chilies in place of dry red chilies.

Servings

You can serve upwas nuggets with chutney or as it is. They remain crispy longer and taste just awesome. You can make small vada from the dough and shallow fry it. You also can make appe from the dough.
