Ingredients

  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1 tbsp Cumin seeds
  • 2 pieces Cinnamon
  • 2~3 Green cardamom
  • 3~4 Peppercorns
  • 3~4 Cloves
  • 2~3 Bay leaves
  • 1 cup Finely chopped Onion
  • 1 tsp Green chilli-Garlic paste (4 Garlic cloves and 1 green chili)
  • 1 tsp Goda masala
  • 1 tbsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Tomato
  • Potato and Cauliflower
  • Green peas
  • 1 cup Basamati rice
  • 1 1/2 cup Water
  • Salt to taste
  • Cashew nuts
  • 2~3 tsp Ghee

Instructions

  • Heat up oil in cooker.
  • Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  • Add cinnamon, green cardamom, peppercorns, cloves and bay leaves. Fry for about a minute.
  • Add onion and fry until it turns light golden. You can add sliced onion if you want.
  • Add green chili–garlic paste. Fry for about a minute.
  • Add goda masala, coriander powder, turmeric powder and red chili powder.
  • Mix well and fry for about a minute.
  • Add tomato and mix well.
  • Add potato, cauliflower and mix well.
  • Add green peas and mix well.
  • You can add veggies fo your choice like French beans, carrot, brinjal.
  • Take rice and wash it really good.
  • Soak rice in enough water for 30 minutes.
  • Add soaked rice and mix well.
  • Add water, salt cashew nuts and mix well.
  • Add ghee and close the lid. You can skip ghee if you don’t want.
  • Cook rice on medium heat until 2 whistles.
  • After 2 whistles, let the pressure release, open the lid and loosen the rice with fork.
  • You can close the cooker after loosening the rice.
  • Masale bhat is already.
  • You can have masale bhat as it is. You can serve it with any raita.

Notes

  • If you soak rice for 30 minutes, add 1 1/2 cup water for 1 cup rice. If you haven’t soaked rice then add 2 cups water for 1 cup rice.
  • Ghee gives nice texture and flavor to the rice.
