Konkani Breakfast Surnoli Dosa

Surnoli dosa is a type of Konkani amboli or Ghanave. It turns out nice, soft and fluffy. It is made sweet and salty too. Today we will be making both the types. It is also known as curd dosa at some places. These look nice and taste fantastic. This is a very easy and simple recipe. It can be the best breakfast option. It needs very few ingredients those are easily available in your kitchen. You can try this recipe at home.

Surnoli dosa is a light, fluffy and light on stomach recipe that is made from rice, poha and fenugreek seeds. If you want to make sweet version then you can add gudh in it and if you want to go with salty version then use the batter as it is. Both the versions taste fantastic and are good for breakfast. This is a good breakfast option or evening snack for kids. It is also known as dadhyacha dosa or curd dosa as curd is used in this recipe.It is made in 2 variations, sweet and salty. We will be making both of them.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Rice
  • 1 cup thick Poha
  • 1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • 1/2 cup Curd
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup shredded fresh Coconut
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tsp Gudh / Jaggery
  • Oil
  • Turmeric powder

Instructions

Step 1: Take rice, pohe, fenugreek seeds and mix well.

Step 2: Wash everything well together really good 3-4 times with water and drain all the water.

Step 3: Take curd, water in a bowl and beat it really good.

Step 4: Transfer the curd into the rice mixture and mix well.

Step 5: Soak it well for about 4-5 hours. No need to add additional water.

Step 6: Add fresh coconut and mix everything well together.

Step 7: Transfer the mixture into a blender jar and add a little water.

Step 8: Blend it into fine paste.

Step 9: Transfer the batter into a pot and ferment it overnight.

Step 10: Add salt to taste and mix well.

Step 11: Heat up a pan on medium heat and spread oil.

Step 12: Add batter at the center of the pan and spread well.

Step 13: Spread a little oil along the edges.

Step 14: When lower side is roasted well take it off into a dish. Salty surnoli dosa is all ready.

Step 15: For making sweet surnoli transfer some of the batter into a bowl and add gudh.

Step 16: Mix well and let gudh dissolve into the batter.

Step 17: Add turmeric powder and mix well.

Step 18: Heat up a pan on medium heat and spread oil. 

Step 19: Add batter at the center and spread it well.

Step 20: spread a little oil along the edges.

Step 21: When lower side is roasted well take it off into a dish. Sweet surnoli dosa is all ready. 

Step 22: You can have sweet surnoli as it is and serve salty surnoli with chutney and sambar.

Notes

  • You can use 1 1/2 cup buttermilk in place of curd and water.
  • Surnoli dosa is roasted from one side only. Avoid flipping over and roasting dosa from other side.
