Matar paneer is a very popular north Indian recipe. It is frequently made at homes as it is very easy and simple recipe. Ingredients

  • 1 big finely chopped Onion
  • 1 finely chopped Tomato
  • 250 gm Paneer
  • 1/2 cup Green peas
  • Ginger-Garlic-Green chili paste (1” Ginger, 4~5 Garlic cloves & 2 Green chilies)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Red chili powder
  • 3 tbsp Mustard oil
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 3~4 Cloves
  • Black peppercorns

Instructions

  • Wash paneer really good and chop it into small pieces.
  • Heat up mustard oil in a pan.
  • Mustard oil gives that authentic taste to this recipe. You can use any other oil instead of mustard oil.
  • Add paneer and shallow fry them until these turn nice golden from all sides.
  • You can deep fry the paneer too.
  • Take the paneer out into a dish.
  • In the same oil add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  • Add bay leaves, cloves, black pepper and mix well.
  • Add onion and fry on medium heat until it turns deep golden in color or about 6-7 minutes.
  • When onion gets light golden color and ginger-garlic-green chili paste, turmeric powder and mix well.
  • Cook for just about a minute.
  • Add tomato and mix well.
  • Cook for about 4-5 minutes until tomato gets cooked nice and soft and gets mashed with onion.
  • Add red chili powder, garam masala and mix well.
  • Cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Add some water enough to make gravy, salt green peas and mix well.
  • If you are using fresh peas the add peas in gravy and cook them for about 8-10 minutes in it.
  • Add fried paneer and mix well.
  • Cover and cook on medium heat for about 5-6 minutes.
  • Turn off the gas and matar paneer is already.
  • Matar paneer goes well with fulka, chapatti, roti or naan.
