Ingredients

  • 4~5 Alu / Colocasia leaves
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tbsp Raw peanuts
  • 2 tbsp Chana dal
  • 2~3 tbsp Tamarind pulp
  • 1 tbsp Gudh / Jaggery
  • 2 tbsp Besan / Chick pea flour
  • 1/2 tbsp Goda masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • A pinch of Hing / Asafetida
  • Methi / Fenugreek seeds
  • 2 Fienly chopped Green chillies

Instructions

  • Take peanuts and chana dal and soak them in enough water for 4 hours.
  • Take colocasia leaves and wash then really good.
  • Take a leaf and flip it over.
  • Cut the stalk and peel as much skin as possible.
  • Keep the stalk aside.
  • Roll the leaf and cut it.
  • Take the stalk and peel it. Chop the peeled stalk into small pieces.
  • Take chopped alu add water.
  • Take soaked chana dal and peanuts into other pot.
  • Take cooker and add water at the base.
  • Put the pot containing alu at the bottom and other pot above it.
  • Close the lid and cook on medium heat until 2 whistles.
  • Take the pot out and beat alu really good.
  • Add tamarind pulp, gudh and mix well.
  • You can add ambat chuka instead of tamarind pulp.
  • Chop ambat chuka and add it to alu while cooking.
  • If you add ambat chuka then don’t adds tamarind pulp at all.
  • Add besan and mix well. Make sure no lumps of besan are formed.
  • Add goda masala, salt and stir well.
  • You can add garam masala or kala masala instead of goda masala.
  • Add cooked dal and peanuts. Mix well.
  • Heat up oil in a pan.
  • Add mustard seeds and let them pop up.
  • Add hing, fenugreek seeds and green chillies.
  • Mix well and add alu mixture into it.
  • Though it looks runny in the beginning, it will thicken up as it cooks.
  • Cook on medium heat for about 8-10 minutes. Rawness of besan should be removed.
  • Turn off the gas and alucha fatfate is already.

Notes

  • You can cook alu, peanuts and chana dal together. But then you can’t beat alu properly. So cook alu and peanuts and chana dal separately.
  • Alu is a little itchy. So rub a little oil on hands and then chop it.
