This is a perfect recipe for bachelors or a good dinner option after a long tiring day. Aloo bhat tastes just awesome. You can call it a version of masale bhat. You can try this recipe at home.

Aloo bhat is Indian variety of rice. The main ingredient as the name suggests is potato and rice. This is a real quick recipe and can be served with pickle, raita or papad too.

This can be a perfect dinner option after a long tiring day as one pot meal. Also this is a good one pot meal for bachelors. You can make variations as per your choice like masala or veggies etc.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp Oil
  • 1~2 Bay leaves
  • 1 1/2 chopped Tomato
  • 1/2” shredded Ginger
  • 1 tbsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Goda masala
  • Red chili powder
  • 3 small size peeled & chopped Potatoes
  • Green peas
  • 1 1/2 cups Rice
  • 3 1/2 cups Water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Gudh
  • 2~3 tsp Ghee (Optional)
  • Cashew nuts (Optional)

Instructions

Step 1.Heat up oil in a cooker.

Step 2. Add cumin seeds and let it splutter.

Step 3. Add bay leaves, tomato and fry for just 2 minutes.

Step 4.Add ginger and fry for about a minute.

Step 5. Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, goda masala, red chili powder and mix well.

Step 6. Add potatoes, green peas and mix well.

Step 7.Wash rice really good 2-3 times and add it into the cooker.

Step 8. Mix well and add water, salt, gudh and mix well.

Step 9.Add ghee, cashew nuts and mix well.

Step 10.Close the lid and cook on medium heat until 2 whistles.

 

Step 11.Open the lid and mix the rice carefully once. 

Step 12. Aloo bhat is all ready.

Step 13. You can serve it with pickle, papad, lot of ghee, coriander leaves, shredded fresh coconut.

Notes

  1. You can add veggies of your choice if you want.
  2. Adding ghee and cashew nuts is optional. You can skip it if you don’t want.
  3. You can add peanuts in place of cashew nuts.
